The most common kind of water heater in Calgary is a storage tank water heater that is an insulated hot water tank filled with water that gets heated by natural gas, stored and is ready for use when you turn on a hot water tap. There are many models including atmospheric, power vented, and power direct vented to name just a few. We also service electric storage heaters which surged in popularity in the new home market in the past decade.

Another option is a more energy-efficient tankless water heater that provides hot water on demand using a heat exchanger to heat the water as you need it. They are incredibly efficient and have come a long way in the past 2-3 years in Canada. They do give you “endless hot water” BUT be aware you can only have a limited amount of fixtures running at one time, so proper sizing by a professional is very important.  As well, they require a permit with the City of Calgary when switching from a tank to a tankless system.  There is plenty to consider when making this upgrade.
